Since 2014, the Nitehawk Naughties series has explored the American porn boom in the early 1970s and the erotic Scandinavian films that influenced them. In 2016, the Naughties peel back the sheets on a cross section of French films that have that inherently sexy je ne sais quoi. The series begins with a 35mm screening of Luis Bunuel’s surrealist sado-masochistic classic Belle De Jour in February and is followed up by four midnite screenings during the summer categorized as The Cult, The Porn, The Classic, and The Modern. 

In June, THE PORN features the infamous tale of Emmanuelle, a young French woman who embarks on a sexual journey in Bangkok. July goes CLASSIC as two anonymous lovers push their sexual and personal boundaries while sharing a Parisian apartment with our 35mm screening of Bernardo Bertolucci’s Last Tango in Paris. August is THE CULT with Jean Rollin’s seductive vampires (former porn actress Brigitte Lahaie) tempt a thief in the erotic horror film Fascination. Ooh La La concludes with a 35mm screening of Bertolucci’s The Dreamers as the THE MODERN, a recent film of an unorthodox love affair between an American student and two French sibling set amongst the late 1960s student riots in Paris.
