In celebration of the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival and its Midnight selection of horror, thriller, and cult cinema, Nitehawk and Tribeca have collaborated on a three-night retrospective series of influential Midnight films chosen by genre filmmakers debuting new films at Tribeca. Kevin Phillips (SUPER DARK TIMES), Kasra Farahani (THE GOOD NEIGHBOR), and Justin Benson & Aaron Morehead (RESOLUTION, SPRING) have selected their favorite classic Midnight movies for special Nitehawk presentations during this year’s Tribeca Film Festival.

TRIBECA SUMMER DOC SERIES
July 2017

For the fourth summer, Nitehawk Cinema and Tribeca have partnered to present a curated series of four documentaries that made their World Premiere during the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival. A Q&A with the filmmakers will follow each screening.

With a focus on our current political climate, the Tribeca Summer Doc Series includes: THE DEATH AND LIFE OF MARSHA P. JOHNSON from Oscar-nominated director David France which follows a new investigation into the mysterious death of self-described “street queen” Marsha P. Johnson, one of the courageous black transgender activists who spearheaded the modern gay civil rights movement.

David Byars’ directorial debut, NO MAN’S LAND which provides an on-the-ground account of the standoff between protesters occupying Oregon’s Malheur National Wildlife Refuge and federal authorities in 2016. ELIÁN, from directors Tim Golden and Ross McDonnell, revisits the story of Elián González eighteen years after the custody battle between his Cuban father and his Miami-located relatives grabbed international headlines. THE REAGAN SHOW concludes the programming with directors Pacho Velez and Sierra Pettengill’s prescient documentary presenting Ronald Reagan as the first made-for-TV president.
